Oyster FAQs

How are my oysters shipped?

Oysters are a live product so they will be harvested on shipping day with two day delivery. To ensure the freshest product possible we will only ship perishable items to a street address, no PO boxes, continental US only.

How will my oysters be packaged?

Your oysters will be processed and packaged on shipping day. We use an insulated cooler  box with food safe, reusable gel ice packs to keep your oysters cold. They are packaged to  safely travel to your destination with 2 day shipping. Please make sure someone will be  available to get the oysters in refrigeration upon delivery.

How long will my oysters last?

When properly stored your oysters can last up to 14 days or longer. We suggest eating your  oysters between 7 and 10 days to guarantee that fresh taste.

How do I properly store my oysters?

When your package arrives, unbox your oysters and place them in a colander or bowl and  place in the fridge. Cover with a damp cloth to keep moisture in. If you are storing in a cooler make sure your oysters DO NOT sit in melted ice. Oysters are a living animal and will “drink”  the water and lose their salty flavor.

How do I know my oysters are still fresh?

Look at each oyster and examine the shell. As you take in the beauty make sure the oyster is tightly clamped and no liquor is dripping from the oyster. This will ensure your oyster is still fresh.

Are these oysters safe to eat year round?

Here at Murder Point Oyster Company we set the utmost standard for protecting and safeguarding your health. We take pride in our oyster and want to maintain your trust. Therefore, we follow strict time temperature regulations set by the FDA to ensure your oyster is safe and ready for consumption. The higher the temperature is outside, the quicker we get our oysters to refrigeration. With this process in place, you can now enjoy fresh Alabama farm raised oysters all year long. Not just those months with an R in them (IYKYK).
